Project Anna, Inc.
is a 501 (c) (3) community outreach program that was founded in
2003 by Rev. Audra Singleton, then a high school assistant principal
and a US Army Veteran of the Persain Gulf War, to give the Pitt
County Community a proactive approach in preventing school dropouts
and teenage pregnancy. This program has included training and resources
to youth and families of all races and economical backgrounds. A
collaboration was built uniting students, parents and the local
professionals and agencies. Since 2005 Project Anna, Inc. has been
strengthening empowering children not only in education but also
in health care awareness and nutrition. Our aim to give a holistic
approach to strengthen the family which enables the child to put
a stronger focus on education and make goals to achieve and give
back to society. In November 2007, Project Anna, Inc. expanded our
dedication and mission to further address nutrition and healthcare
needs in a greater capacity by opening the first food pantry in
history in Falkland, North Carolina. Our food pantry has assisted
a great number of African Americans and Hispanics from all over
Pitt County. Local professionals, active and retired, and interpreters
have helped us to access and fulfill the needs of our citizens.
Through the food pantry we are promoting healthy families by offering
and monitoring free medical screenings for diabetes, high blood
pressure, cholesterol and heart disease. Families who come out for
screenings are given a free digital blood pressure monitor, and
healthcare counseling to encourage them to be proactive in an effort
to live longer and healthier lives. Project Anna, Inc. also provides
reading glasses, vitamins for adults and children, aspirin, diabetic
shakes, nutrition classes, fresh fruits and vegetables and community
family fun events, all free of charge to the Falkland Community
and Pitt County citizens. We also deliver to free groceries once
a week to seniors and the disabled who lack transportation to our
site. We give families everything from free food, medical supplies,
hygiene items and clothing to help them offset the cost of medical
care, gasoline, utilities and household necessities every day of
the week.
Our Titus 2 Mentoring program provides
young ladies (ages 11-21) with hope and the necessary training to
become self-respecting, productive contributors to society by giving
them acceptance, nourishment, instruction and empowerment to overcome
any obstacle and to pursue their goals. Project Anna is a charitable
Christian outreach ministry that honors the celebration of the older
women teaching the younger women leadership and discipline. This
connection fosters the gifts of a maternal wisdom, mentorship, strong
families and functional parents.
While our mentoring program mainly
serves females, Project Anna realizes that there are many young
males who need support and guidance as well. The social ills children
face such as rape, child abuse, abandonment and neglect know no
gender or race. Some of our special services and programs are
dedicated to the growth and the development of our young men. Our
goal is to enhance the lives of all children in every area of their
lives and to be a resource that promotes a strong family infrastructure
that will lead by serving others in the community and all over the
world.
